22 July 2004 - As seen in Diamond Intelligence Briefs Diamond manufacturer and trading group Dimexon Diamonds Ltd. (Mumbai) and Eurostar Diamond Traders N.V. (Antwerp) have become one of GIA India's (Gemological Institute of America) Founding Benefactors with a US $1 million gift to the Institute's Endowment for Education in India. Ensuring the Indian diamond industry's continued growth through increased educational opportunities was the driving force behind the gift, explains Pankaj K. Mehta, Chairman of Dimexon Diamonds Ltd. "The idea of the Indian school really touched our hearts. It's something we knew from the start we wanted to be associated with. (The school) gives something back to our country and the industry," says Mehta. "India is looking forward to GIA coming here and is going to welcome it with open arms. We want to be a part of that,"adds Kaushik K. Mehta, Chairman of Eurostar Diamond Traders. The generous philanthropic contribution means Dimexon Eurostar will join GIA's elite group of Million Dollar Roundtable donors, and company representatives will be inducted into the prestigious League of Honor next year, and GIA will rename the student plaza at its world headquarters in Carlsbad, California as the ‘Dimexon-Eurostar Student Plazaˆ in appreciation of the contribution. "This latest gift to GIA's Endowment for Education in India is just one more example of a dedicated company's commitment not just to the Institute, but to India's booming diamond manufacturing and jewelry industry. The educational value their contribution will provide, through scholarships and other opportunities, will benefit the Indian community and ensure even greater prosperity. Positive results such as these can build upon themselves as other industry leaders in India come forward with additional contributions,” enthuses GIA President William E. Boyajian. |
